Interview cost splitting question

I go to school in the Midwest, and I'm flying to LA for an interview, but the firm is not paying for it. I have an unscheduled callback for a bay area firm. Any clue what the protocol would be if I scheduled the bay area interview right after? Would the firm balk if I just asked them to fly me from LA to the bay area and back home, or would this be a good way to make my LA trip cheaper? Obviously this might vary from firm to firm, but I'd appreciate any thoughts or tips on the matter.

I would only consider the interview if the position was lucrative. Firms that wont pay to fly you in for interviews typically do not pay market rate.

This is pretty common and not really a big deal.

They pay market, but aren't a V100. Also its a full interview, which I'm not about to turn down without an offer in hand. Once I finalize it I'm going to do my best to tack another interview on that day (I just had a CB at another firm and they said I'd know by Wednesday. I'll cancel if I get that offer).
