OCI is coming up for me, and I have interviews w/ multiple firms that have 145k salary. It's honestly not a problem for me, as long as reputation is good nevertheless. anyways, I was wondering if these firms are easier to get since there is less competition, or it is actually harder because they think you will go to a firm with 160k in a heartbeat. that said, should I expect more aggressive questions to weed out such people, or are the firms generally just more relaxed?

I'd be more worried that the firm is going under.

What market is it in? 145k is higher than market at in many regions. Either way, you're reading too much into it. Just go for it.

In my experience these firms have smaller classes so they're harder to get for that reason. Also law students are used to thinking that if they pay less they must be ttt and that comes across in interviews. Nobody wants to be anyone's second choice.

bingo on both counts

thinking a firm is going to be "easier to get" (whatever that means) because of the pay difference is basically a kiss of death. don't think recruiters and interviewers can't pick up on that.
