How Iron Clad is this requirement?

Top 20% class rank required (or minimum LSAT score of 160 or higher, if school does not provide a class rank at the time a selection is made)

I mean, are they really going to reject someone in the top 30% at CLS over someone in the top 20% at George Mason? There's no way they apply it that way. Right? Even the IRS isn't that arbitrary.

Question 2: When does the application period start? The website has no indication of deadlines etc. I see from past posts that people start asking about updates in late October. That's when I assume interviews are conducted.

I was contacted last October (late... like Oct 28 or 30th) to set up an interview [eta: Austin field office]. But I got the impression that it varied widely based on the field office in question.

Also ETA, I'm at a school that "doesn't do" ranking and was not asked for my LSAT. To be clear though, I got the interview (only one round of interviews was done at Austin) but not an offer. I am in the top 20% though.

Maybe you just picked CLS as a random example, but if you are at Columbia isn't there a solid argument that a class rank hasn't been provided? If so, I'd guess there's a pretty decent shot your LSAT is over 160?

IRS is the SullCrom of gov't agencies.

I'm just assuming this is like firms' posted cutoffs, i.e. it has not relation to reality.

My agency (not IRS) has a similar cut off posted in official job descriptions. We mostly ignore it and only care about it if it's from a school outside the top 20 or so.
