I would think starting in DC, especially at a firm of that caliber, will make you more marketable nationwide. The downside is that corp is obviously not DC's strong suit, but assuming you can get into a corporate group at one of those offices I'd rather do that than Charlotte.

FWIW, K&L in Charlotte definitely has some lateral associates from NYC / DC. Would rather not say how I know, but it can be done.
