T35
GPA 3.69, 6%
secondary journal
2L fall directed research/attempting to publish paper with professor
CALI in LRW
Best Brief Competition finalist
collegiate athlete
two years as paralegal in CA
desired markets: (west: CA, MW: Mpls, Chi, East: DC or boston)

what level of firms should i apply to? I have some cover letters ready to mass mail and some firms i've already selected to write unique cover letters for. Should I aim for V50+ only? I'm basically shooting from the hip and would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

1. Just say the school. There's a big difference between Madiscon-Wisconsin and BC.
2. Are you past 2L? It says you directed work as a 2L. If so, this is pretty much moot
3. Either way, if you're just talking mass mail, then all of them. Like literally ever firm you can find

Why have you excluded NYC?

FYI - Some enormous fraction of all biglaw jobs nationally are in NYC. If you want BigLaw and you don't have the luxury of picking and choosing (and you don't), you need to be targeting NYC.

Different Anon here: Is there any issue with applying to multiple offices of the same firm if you don't have ties to some of the other offices? example: top 12% at Iowa applying to Sidley Austin's Chicago office (because Midwest) as well as the LA, NYC, and DC offices because of them being major markets. Is it smarter to direct all apps to the location you can best sell or is it not really an auto-ding to show that you would want to work in their other major-market offices also?

Why would you use an artificial firm distinction to limit your mass mailing?

Yeah, no reason other than time not to mass mail everywhere. If you think there are some firms where you will be more competitive and be a better fit, then mail them first. But there is no reason not to mail everyone else once you have gotten your targets out of the way.

Also just lol at focusing on vault from a T35, whatever than ranking means. Mail every single firm you can.
