Skip OCI?

I've gotten some great offers already and basically couldn't do much better than what I've got from ranking, culture, level of work, and exit options perspectives. I would have to be completely blow out the water by a different firm to consider them and I don't really see that happening.

A few people have told me to still do OCI for the experience, but I'm not sure that is actually credited advice. I'll hopefully never be trapped in a hotel with hundreds of employers, I'm fairly confident I don't need the interviewing experience, and I can extend my summer by almost a month by not doing it.

Is there something about OCI such that I should still do it?

I've heard, though not sure if true, that OCI might be helpful for your 3L job search. If you get no offered or don't like your current firm, and if you're applying to other places, the theory is that it's a plus if they gave you an offer before.

However, I don't think it makes much of a difference. They might question why you didn't accept the offer in the first place.

if you have a firm you like, I personally would skip it. I haven't done OCI yet but from the sound of it, it not only shortens your summer but it also makes those weeks dreadful.

If you have offers already that you'd accept, fuck it. Just go on vacation you lucky bastard.

I'm totally jealous. How did you get your offer so soon? Mass mailing?

I am in the same position (got my #1 firm) and 100% plan on not doing OCI. May the month of August be glorious for you my friend.

OP: I mailed my top 5 offices and got the callbacks scheduled asap. Total time between mailing and now was like 2.5 weeks.

Same predicament. Have had a Quinn offer for a couple weeks now and really can't see taking anyone over them. What would have made the deal even sweeter is if they would have offered to pay for a vacation that just so happens had to be scheduled during OCI. Would have done it in a heartbeat.

Nicely done! Would you mind ball-parking your stats?

You never have to look for another job again.

T14, roughly median, compelling resume, and a very good interviewer. Offers V10 NY with 2 secondary market V10s wedged in as well.

I'm surprised you weren't told to try and interview with them on campus. I'm median at a T14 too and any V10 I emailed in NY told me to bid through the on campus program.

Could someone explain this meme to me? A quick google search seems to just reveal the meme use itself but not the origin. Is this something JBQ belligerently said one morning?

I like to call this quote: "Law students, a retrospective."

OP, I'm in a similar position (1 V10 and 2 V20s) and am probably still going to do OCI. Unless your NY V10 is Wachtell I don't really see why you wouldn't just see if one of the other firms does blow you away. I mean, I guess if you've made no arrangements whatsoever for OCI you can skip it, but I don't really think you'll regret spending the time to confirm that the firm you have an offer from is truly the firm for you.

If I were you I'd just narrow my bid list down to super reach firms (big and boutique).

I had offers from V10 firms before OCI but did it anyway. Free trips to NY/LA/wherever. All you have to do is sit through a few hour callback and you can usually tack an extra day or two on to your trip and they still pay for the flight...

Interviewing blows. Why are you guys acting like its super fun to fly/drive all over the country just to sit through four hours of hell and then be taken to a nice lunch afterwards?

Skip it, OP.

I'm accepting an offer at lunch today and it's going to feel fan-fucking-tastic to skip OCI. You should do the same OP, as long as you are in love with one of the firms you got.
