For the US/NY office for these firms, do they still expect international experience/background/interest?
I bid on clifford chance and white & case and others because I heard they aren't grade selective, I want to work in corporate, and I generally liked the firm when I researched them.
However, I am have no travel history, no international experience, and no interest in doing international work (well, traveling at least).
Do they want "international" applicants for their US/NY office?

I'm curious about this for Allen & Overy as well. I've got a job fair interview with them, and I'm pretty much the same as you except I've done a little international travel and I wouldn't mind traveling some for work.

I think linklaters had their orientation in London this summer for 10 days. Not sure about the rest of the firms or if regular travel is expected.

OP here. Thanks for the info
I guess I don't mind travel (I just don't want to live in the UK for 6 months at a time).
Also, my question is more about hiring. What do they look for in terms of int'l bg?

First tip is that White and Case is not a magic circle firm.

My impression is that being placed in the London office at somewhere like A&O or Freshfields is actually a challenge/"prestigious" compared to the NY offices. So that's somewhat more legit.
You can't rly call yourself a 'magic circle' attorney unless you're working in the UK

It's something that people say when they want to work on exciting international deals when they don't realize 1) the deals are just as shitty and not exciting and 2) the only interesting international aspect is phone calls at weird hours with people w funny accents

Related--well, not really, but at least it's about the same firms--I know for the London offices of these firms litigation is not an option. But would it be possible to go over there as a
tax attorney? Or is it really cap markets or bust for American lawyers in London?
