Top Law Schools

This is the type of law I'm interested in. I can only imagine it will be, as it state, the law of contracts. One would assume things like job contracts, real estate contracts, and for the bigger guys, entertainment/sports contracts. I don't know anything about $$$ though. Should be interesting, I guess, regardless of the pay.

sorry - i don't mean contracts as in contracts or government contracts the legal body of law. i mean contract attorney as in not an associate.

Sounds like a good way to get stuck doing doc review for the rest of your life.

The only contract attorneys who make any money for biglaw are partners and specialists who contract with another firm or a specific company during high-stakes deals and litigation. This kind of contracting just means a way for them to make you do tedious work without having to pay you a full year's salary.

Run, seriously. This will dead-end a career in biglaw before it starts.

As to OP, you are either a recent grad or a 3L. Considering how tough the market is for these students, I would take this job. It is not biglaw and it will most likely not help you get biglaw, but it will pay you more than the average person graduating law school these days gets paid. Also, you never know, maybe the firm likes and you end up getting biglaw, or maybe just use this period as getting cash income while investing your out-of-work time in getting another job.

Some of the people here mention that it will be the kiss of death for biglaw. A bit too late for that basically. And I doubt it is as much of a kiss of death as let's say doing PI after law school.

I agree with this. The thing is being a recent grad or a 3L without a full-time biglaw offer means you most likely already kissed your biglaw career's death. (Your odds of getting biglaw as a 3L or a recent grad are incredibly low if you didn't get in through a 2L SA.) I'm assuming you're a recent grad, because these posting are typically looking to fill the position immediately, rather than over a year later, so think of it as cash in your pocket while you can continue to search for other work. It's going to be BS doc review, but it's better than unemployment, which is also a giant red mark on your resume. Also, as the quoted poster mentioned, big law firms pay contract attorneys more than most other legal employers will as a recent grad, so it can help give you build up a cash cushion that might be helpful when you start your next job that's likely to be lower paying.

I would apply and see what the job is.
