I am currently an SA in a major, non-NYC market. During OCI (t6), I bid on mostly NYC firms with a handful of firms from my current market sprinkled in, thinking it was best to maximize my chances of landing a BigLaw SA if I bid heavily on NYC.

I ended up taking an SA with one of those firms in the non-NYC market. I have had a good summer, but I now wish that I had interviewed with more firms in this market when I had the chance.

How should I go about contacting firms about interviewing as 3L? I could go through the OCI process, but my school is not in this market and I feel as though it would be preferable to just interview while I am still living here.

I guess I should have clarified this earlier: should I mass-mail now, pre-offer? I am assuming I will be back at school by the time the offer is extended.

I would probably just do it pre-offer but it may depend on the secondary market. It seems like NYC firms are ready to consider 3Ls though. I would bid OCI too, you might as well.
