You are going to have a rough time if you zero in on only DC with median grades.

As far as pure numbers, I'd move Jones Day up a bit. Fried Frank NYC and Winston can probably be punted to the 13-20 range.

Also, define "specific practice groups."

You have effectively 0 chance at half the firms on your list. At least try to target the less selective firms if you're deadset on only bidding DC.

If s/he has an offer to the same place for next summer I'd say fuck it, go wild, but it still makes me cringe as an inappropriate waste of bids.

That was my mentality - also I already have an interview with a different Jones Day office set-up outside of Penn and with their no multiple office interview policy I didn't want to waste a bid.

so why bid them at all?

You'll prob get 15+ screeners off that list but you're just going to get an awkward 30 minutes out of most of them. If you want a meaningful chance to switch markets you should at least swap out the most selective places with other DC firms.

Your 1L firm makes guaranteed offers to come back for 2L or just offers you a touchback?

I assumed the firm they already had was a DC firm, but that might be a shitty assumption.

So - drop A&P/Covington/W&C/WilmerHale/Cleary/S&C/Jones Day completely - move less selective DC firms up? Any others?
