Chicago's Less Selective Legal Market

What would be good firms to target in Chicago for someone with a 3.36 GPA at a vandy? Before law school, I had two summers of work at a midsized law firm in Chicago and I'm working at an agency in Chicago this summer.

Are these for OCI slots or mass mailing? If for OCI, you are probably out of play for any that are big enough to send attorneys to Vandy. If for mass mail you should be sending something to every single firm in the city.
I mean no reason to sugar coat it, medianish at UChi/NU often ends up sweating it out for Chicago. Not a good place to be coming from Vandy.

Thanks for the responses. Would it be better if I tried OCI for a city I have no ties with: Atlanta, Texas, elsewhere in the south? Or, is mass mailing Chicago my best bet for a firm gig?

Not good for Southern firms without ties. Try TN firms (Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville). Atlanta is 100% out. Texas is too without ties
Is Chicago where you have ties? (if so, work those over the summer, get informational interviews, and mass mail. If not, go where you're from)

If you are in Chicago now you should be networking like mad and meeting as many people as possible. I know nothing about the market but this is your best chance to do research and find out about mid- size firms. OCI is going to be tough for you. All of the southern cities seem to be small markets that are either ties sensitive or grade sensitive or both.

Is Vandy preselect or lottery?

Vandy is 50% preselect I remember being told, however, each student only has 25 bids total.

Bc atl big firms are all grade whores
Ah. I know from professional circles that Vandy has a solid reputation in ATL, but I think it's just the reality of the market that UGA, Emory, and Duke all feed into ATL as well. Maybe UVA and some others place a handful there, too. I'd imagine ATL is a bit saturated.

Not to Hijack OPs thread but what if one had GPA in the low 3.5x range? Would Chicago firms come into play either through the few that come through OCI or Vandy's Chicago job fair that they host (around 12 firms w/ 15 interview slots each)?

I seriously thought this thread was going to be about Wisconsin.
