Just out of curiosity, are there any legal jobs that are business casual in terms of dress code?

my office this summer (big brand firm) is business casual. Most offices outside NYC are. people wear ties a couple days a week for fun, but you don't have to.

My midlaw firm has partners who wear shorts every day. Once you're equity, you can do what the fuck you want. Biz casual to casual otherwise. Polo and chinos don't look out of place.

There are a good number of NYC biglaw firms that are business casual too. Just keep a suit in the closet and you're all set.

The small firm I worked at pre-ls had no dress code except for the maybe 10 days/year clients or opposing counsel were going to be around.

I wear jeans and a tee shirt routinely. The large firm I was with before was slacks and a button down.

I think most legal organizations nowadays are business casual for while in the office and not interacting with clients. Some are casual casual. I don't deal with clients in-person very frequently, so I get away with wearing whatever I want while in the office. Obviously, suit and tie are required for when doing anything that might reflect on the image of the organization (e.g. court proceedings, anything where clients are present, dealing with the press, etc.).

This might be a step in the wrong direction, but if you want to wear hiking boots, baggy cargo pants, and a camouflage jacket to work most days, you can work for the military as a JAG.
And, as part of your job, your office will spend several hours each week running around in short-shorts and tucked in t-shirts (so stylish, I know) playing ultimate-Frisbee, volleyball, or soccer for physical training/team building.

One of my friends works for a company whose founder left a firm that he started in order to focus on the company. They offer courses to those who have declared Chapters 12 and/or 13. The man apparently always dresses casually and scoffs if he's ever given a subpoena for any reason because it means that he has to dress up for court.
