Canadian Grad hoping for US Big Law

Hi All -

A moment of your time would be deeply appreciated. I am a recent grad of a Canadian law school which places quite a few students in New York as summer associates.

I am wondering if anyone could provide me with some advice on ways to secure 'big law' positions in New York. I understand from reading the forums that law students in the US--who are in a similar position--tend to blanket these firms with applications and hope that one or two responds. However, I am curious about the timetable for making these apps: is there a time in the year firms accept apps for 1 year associate positions? Are there certain firms which are more receptive to these types of apps? Would there be a consulting agency worth contacting for help with this process?

I apologize if my questions seem pretty basic and I deeply appreciate anyone who can spare me a few minutes to write a response or pm me with one.

Thank you!

What school? AFAIK only uoft ubc and McGill send students with any sort of regularity. Since you already graduated I guess you missed out on New York firm OCIs (assuming it's uoft).

No idea on what you should do, but it will be tougher as a graduate since most firms hire out of their summer classes.

Thank you for your response. I graduated from UofT where I performed, I think, quite well and I've always wanted to go to NY. But yes, I missed out on OCIs. I am just curious if there is any way I can take a final shot at it and if so, any advice would be helpful.

You can network and mail apps in but you pretty much missed the boat. Srry.
Yeah, this.

Did you even sign up to take the New York bar exam in July?
