You will probable be fine, even without ties. You probably already know this, but don't go "all in" on wanting to do appellate work. It's fine to indicate an interest but make sure you also indicate interest in other, less selective, practice areas.anonymous wrote:Litigation (esp. appellate eventually). Are you interested in litigation or transactional? Where are your ties?
I would talk to OCS. You're at (roughly) median, which isn't a bad position to be in, but I would personally feel better hedging my bets in your situation. I would think a mix of D.C./NYC (or other market where you have ties) would be the best bidding strategy for you. You don't have a great shot at the very selective D.C. firms so make sure to bid strategically.Anonymous User wrote:Also wanting DC but grades are not nearly as good. 4H/6P. K-JD. I'm going to skip the D.C. questions as I'm not too knowledgeable about that market, beyond what I already posted and my sense that anyone who isn't significantly above median should be strategic when it comes to bidding D.C. With respect to Ps in LRW: I don't think it's going to materially hurt you if your grades are solid otherwise. I think that, while LRW might be slightly more important to litigation firms, it's not significantly more important and isn't going to give you any result disproportionate to your overall grades. How are your grades?
You have 8Hs, so you're sitting in a good position. You might get asked about it (it goes without saying but don't be defensive). I doubt a firm will not want to hire you because you got 2 Ps in LRW. Maybe the very top litigation firms might have some sort of hesitancy, but I doubt it. I'm on the fence about lit/corporate right now so I was thinking I may as well package myself as being interested in corporate if that gives me a better shot.
