Penn Law Law Review GPA Cutoffs
What are the gpa cutoffs for law review?
I've heard different things on TLS.
20 spots for grade on/20 spots for write on/10 spots for some discretionary combination of the two.
I've also heard that as long as you're in the top 10% or so of your section and you're not in the bottom 1/4 of the writing competition, then you're ok.
Which is it? and what are the GPA cutoffs?

The spot allocation is correct (or close to correct). I can't help you with the GPA cutoffs.

There are 23 spots for grade-on, which are the top 23 people in the 1L class who ranked LR first, so long as they're in the top half of the writing competition scores (which is 60% edit/40% essay).Anonymous User wrote:What are the gpa cutoffs for law review?

Once those people are chosen, they re-sort the spreadsheet and take the top 23 scores in the writing competition, provided those people are in the top 2/3 of the class by GPA and ranked LR first.
Then from the remaining people, they look at the top 25% and choose 9 based on their personal statements.

This is right except they take the write ons first. So you don't actually need to be in the top 23 in the class to grade on if some of those people write on.Anonymous User wrote:There are 23 spots for grade-on, which are the top 23 people in the 1L class who ranked LR first, so long as they're in the top half of the writing competition scores (which is 60% edit/40% essay).Anonymous User wrote:What are the gpa cutoffs for law review?

definitely higher than that bro. only 10% of the mandatory 1L curve was below 3.0. I would speculate more like 3.1xWhirledWorld wrote:Probably somewhere around a 3.0.Anonymous User wrote:Any idea of a gpa range for top 2/3?Anonymous User wrote: Which is it? and what are the GPA cutoffs?

If your median is B+ it's probably more like 3.20wildcatatpenn wrote:definitely higher than that bro. only 10% of the mandatory 1L curve was below 3.0.
