I have basically zero interest in NYC, but honestly if I don't get anything in my (smallish) target market, I'm thinking of just going super-conservative and bidding all NYC + a handful of firms I have personal connections to in other markets. My logic is I can do a few years in NYC, learn a decent amount, and then have a good shot at lateraling to a secondary market as a big, shiny NYC lawyer.sopranorleone wrote:Rising 3L here. I did exactly that: no ties to a non-NYC market, and I'm currently working there now. PM me. If I post any more deets, it'll likely give my identity away.Anonymous User wrote:I have basically zero interest in NYC, but honestly if I don't get anything in my (smallish) target market, I'm thinking of just going super-conservative and bidding all NYC + a handful of firms I have personal connections to in other markets. That said, I'm in sort of a weird place in that I have no lifelong ties to any major legal market, which actually works in my favor in a way. It's not like I'm from DC and have to explain why I'm in love with SF and won't ditch it to go back to DC; no one seriously thinks I'm going to flee to my hometown after a year or two. Is there any anecdotal evidence of situations working out for applying to non-NYC markets? I only ask because my calculus is Target Market > Everywhere Else > NYC, and I'd like to throw out some bids for the middle group if it has a shot of working.

Thanks!
