Top Law Schools

Hello all,

Has anyone used and had success employing an OCI consulting service? I'm in a situation where my grades and school put me at a 50% shot at BigLaw, but that's really the outcome that I want.

Considering using a service like Spivey Consulting. Thoughts?

I recommend Spivey wholeheartedly. I am a 2L at a school that offers about a 1/4-1/3 chance at biglaw. The man's an expert at what he does, and he helped me to land a firm job well above many other with a higher rank than I. This guy is passionate about what he does, and he knows the legal market well.

For obvious reasons, I can't(/won't) go into more detail, but the way I see it, if you're going to a school with a goal in mind, and aren't in a position to cherry pick jobs, why not maximize your chances? It's impossible to tell what would/would not have happened with or without Spivey's services, but I can definitely say that I think Spivey and Jennifer did worlds to build my confidence in being able to find gainful employment, submit strong applications/cover letters/etc, and interview well. Regardless, everything ultimately comes down to you as a candidate, but in the legal world, sometimes the details make all the difference.

That being said, such a service is definitely not necessary to do well, but something that I used as another tool to maximize your chances. All I can say is I feel as though Spivey paid off for me.

What is the estimated cost you had to pay?

Just talked with him today. Keep in mind this is in the context of 3L/post-graduate hiring, but it is 1k up front + 1k after you get your first paycheck. It's a flat fee, so they work with you for however long it takes you to get a job. He sounded like a good guy and knew what he was doing. Considering that one of the guys from law school transparency is on the staff, I'd trust him.
