I'm a first-year litigation associate at a NYC V20 firm. I want to lateral into public interest work in NYC, either at a local non-profit or, potentially, to a state or local agency. How plausibly and how soon can one make this jump?
I know there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this but I want to keep the personal details vague. T10 school with some relevant work experience. Would appreciate any anecdotes.

A mix I guess. Particularly heinous biglaw experience combined with a growing realization that the work isn't for me.

OP here. Similar story. Don't hate the job but it's not what I want to do, and increasingly feeling like I'm not getting anything in exchange for the lifestyle. Original plan was to stick it out another few years but I'm not sure why I would do that anymore if I could manage a transition now.
