Anyone know what the standard compensation determination is for firms when an attorney brings in business? I've mostly talked to friends/read about the attorney that brought it in getting 10% of what is billed to the client.

At my small plaintiffs firm (10-15 attorneys) it is 10% of the settlement. Because all the clients are on contingency it is different than compensation for the client's bill in defense practice but I imagine the 10% is standard across most firms.

At the small plaintiffs firm of about the same size that I used to work at, attorneys were paid 25% of attorney's fees for cases that were assigned to them (no salary, just straight 25% of attorneys fees on each case they settled) and 45% of attorney's fees for cases that they personally brought in.
