Does your law school GPA follow you forever?

GPA is a huge factor for students and recent graduates, but do practicing lawyers still list their GPAs on their resumes? Do lateraled-to firms ask for transcripts, and base hiring decisions upon them? If so, for the entirety of an attorney's career, or only for the first few years?

Anecdotes welcome.

For some legal employers, it will always matter. For others, it doesn't matter after you have 1-2 years of experience. Most legal employers are in between these two extremes somewhere.

There's no black and white answer to this question.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no is the only answer. I was talking to our GC today and he said that all that matters is that I pass this semester, I shouldn't care beyond that. I've heard of places asking for laterals though.

I think especially if you're a junior or even a mid-level lateraling to another firm, they will generally ask for your GPA and possibly transcript. Or, at least, the third party recruiter does.

You can be a rainmaker, but if you were not top 10% of your class. Just not going to cut it.

I think the answer is that some firms care more than others. But if develop a niche, like you were a USAO, or have some sort of other valuable experience, they could probably care less.

No your Gpa doesn't follow you. The only thing that matters is your ability to make it rain. Anyone who tells you otherwise is full of shit. If you don't get skadden out of the gate you'll never get it, so who cares? Your ability to keep your job and get new ones is directly related to your ability to make $ and bring in work.

The problem is that some people hire you, in part, because of your pedigree (school/GPA). Notice I said some, not all.
