Firm decision - any input welcome

I've narrowed down the list of firms I am considering and need to decide by Friday between Gibson LA and Ropes DC. A few considerations: (1) I'm interested in politics and am a Democrat; (2) I want to return to my homestate in the midwest after a few years; (3) I have family in LA; (4) Gibson seems to be the "better" litigation firm and could offer more substantive opportunities.

Would being in DC give me more opportunities to stay in touch with my homestate scene (politically, legally)? Would trying to return to a government or even firm in my homestate be difficult if I'm coming from LA vs DC? Would I get more substantive experience at Gibson, and thus be more marketable? Any considerations I am missing?

Thank you!

Do you want to live in LA or DC? Seems like that should be the biggest factor your decision. I voted for Gibson because LA > DC in terms of overall quality of life, but that's a totally subjective opinion.

You've really got to give more info. I can't believe you don't have a preference between DC and LA. I doubt being in DC will help you stay more in touch with your home state legally or politically (not really sure what you mean).
