Taking a leave of absence effect on employment

Hey all,

A 1L in the top 5-10% @ a top school considering taking a leave of absence next year. Would this screw me over @ OCI? I'd probably be doing non-law-related stuff for the majority of or at least a sizable part of the year.

I'm guessing I would do OCI with the now-0L's? Would this scare away firms? What about if I did something legal for the majority of my time off?

Thanks in advance!

it depends entirely on what you'd be doing, and without that information no one here can offer any advice

My friend took a leave his first year (back in 2011) and was still able to get interviews at OCI. He was helping his mom with cancer, so obvi it was a valid excuse. I think it really depends on why you leave.

I took a leave of absence, and when I did OCI a year later, only about 5-10% of interviewers even noticed the gap between law school years. Be ready with an answer, though.

edit: also got a job out of OCI.
