Top Law Schools

I clerked for a small firm since the summer after 1L. It's doing great, but my job was always contingent on office space. The latest efforts to purchase a new building have fallen through and now they are looking to build on an adjacent lot. This is going to be a 2-3 year operation before I can work there. I'm "more than welcome" to join the firm at that time. I just found out this week. I am screwed.

I'm 26 and my grades are mediocre at best. My undergrad degree is in Criminal Justice and I spent two years with a sheriffs department doing clerical work after graduation. Prior to that I worked all through undergrad and in total I have about 5 years of full-time work history before law school. I also have the 2 years of clerking I mentioned above.

I'm hitting up the career center at the law school this week to see what they have.

Suggestions?

Tell them that you really likes the firm and everyone there. Flatter the partner and ask him if he knows anyone that is looking for an entry-level attorney. It seems like they like you and since its a small firm the partner probably isn't so disconnected to not know he should help you find something.

In the mean time, start applying everywhere.

This seems like a bs excuse to me. Did you mention that it's 2014 and it's perfectly possible for you to work remotely or at the coffee shop down the street? Or rent out an office space at the building next door? I wouldn't wait around for them if it was me.

This seems like a bs excuse to me. Did you mention that it's 2014 and it's perfectly possible for you to work remotely or at the coffee shop down the street? Or rent out an office space at the building next door? I wouldn't wait around for them if it was me.

Where in the office were you working previously? I imagine you had a desk...it seems you could continue to sit at that desk without an office if space was an issue.

I agree that you should see if they can help you with networking. Also start scouring symplicity and apply for everything. My symplicity has quite a few mid sized firms added each week, and someone with from experience would have as good a shot as anyone. My resume screams corporate but I received an interview at a midsized litigation firm a couple weeks ago off simplicity.
