I am going in tomorrow for an interview for a judicial internship. I've done about 10 interviews for various summer positions thus far, but this is my first with a judge. Can anyone provide tips on what to expect or how to prepare? Some have told me that I should have a decent theory of statutory interpretation and judicial review.

Appellate or district court? Maybe you need to know that stuff for COA, but for anything else, it's really just all about fit. They don't expect to get much decent work product out of ya since you've only had a year of law school. It's gonna be more like why this court level, why this jurisdiction, tell me about yourself, go through the résumé. They want to have a personal connection to the intern so that they can hire someone they like as a person.

Great to know. This is for a district court, mainly dealing with family law, small criminal cases, and landlord/tenant disputes.

I interviewed with a judge about two weeks ago. Don't be surprised if they want you to work for them the entire summer or even into the school year. For obvious reasons, minimizing turn-over is beneficial to the judge.

They'll probably ask you some basic questions about your resume, how you're doing in law school, long-term career goals, and things like that. My judge also asked what I felt was important or different about working for an elected official. Good luck - these interviews aren't as stressful as they sound!
