What would you wear? This is to meet the rest of summer class and a bunch of attorneys from firm. Is it a bad idea to do no tie (jacket and khakis)? Any info would be appreciated. Vault firm in NYC.

Slacks, button-down, sports coat. That's the definition of a business casual dinner.

I did a similar dinner for a similar firm and definitely didn't wear a jacket. The lawyers were in jackets because they happened to come from a law school event but none of the other summers wore a jacket. Everyone was wearing biz casual khakis/slacks and a button down collared shirt. The point is no summer wore a jacket.

Just a note, but "button-down" properly refers to shirt collars that button to the front of the shirt. Pretty sure people here mean button-up/button-front shirts.

In NYC, business casual requires a sport coat / blazer. Wearing no jacket makes you look like a 12 year-old boy.

Ok but everyone agrees a tie is unnecessary right?
