3L at T50 in major market. Just interviewed for a Big 4 position in a very niche specialty area that requires 1+ years of experience. I've been working in that area for the past year, so I'm considered an experienced hire (e.g. not entry level).

I was sent an email asking what my salary requirements are for the job. What is a realistic guess as to what the salary would be for that job? I assume I'm going to be paid a fair bit more than someone coming from college because of the JD and the experience, but I also understand it's very far from biglaw.

Also, just as a side note, how do the hours compare to biglaw? Thanks!!

I accepted an entry level position at the Big 4 in a specialized tax group where I will be making around 70k in a secondary market. The recruiter mentioned that there was a salary increase for my JD taken into account in their initial offer.

In regards to your second question, I heard from a friend that you have to bill 45 hours a week but she is not in the tax group.

I just interviewed with a big4 in a top tier market for their M&A department. How much can I expect as a staring salary ? I am a JD and Tax LLM degree.

You can expect a salary between $70k-75k and you'll work around 50 hours per week.

I was told there are multiple variables consider for starting salary. which division. (Tax, audit, consulting) and what degree you hold jd, llm, cpa ..

For people that start in the jd/llm category in a tax division you can expect a salary of around $70-75K. And the hours per week varies depending on your practice group - M&A has more variable hours, international + all others is more 50+ consistently a week. The month before tax returns are due will be crazy busy hours 90-100/week.

I'm fairly positive too that if you're eligible to take the CPA exam and pass it then you'll get a bonus, but CPA is not required to have or obtain. People that are currently working in Big 4 can confirm or deny this though.

For CPAs, I believe big 4 is starting in the low to mid 50s. And I've heard that tax attorneys are making 50-90. I suspect this is very dependent on what office and level they bring you in at.

A bit hard to say without knowing the specifics of the area. NY/DC could be anywhere for 80-110k depending on the specific niche and whether youre brought in at the senior level or not. For bigger secondaries take 10% off of the numbers.
