Top Law Schools

Hey Guys,

I am a current 1L at T25 with a full ride. My grades are not amazing, probably under median by 0.1-0.15. My scholarship will be safe.

I have really been doubting whether I made the right choice. I came to law school in order to enter the field of econoimc law, finance (securities), or trade. Other than those areas I find the legal profession to be dull and extremely mundane.

I have an economics background from a reputable undergrad. Sometimes I feel I should have pursued a PhD in a social science instead. (not econ phd).

Do you guys think I should stay in law school in the off chance that I can land a job in my area of interest? I know that If I do not get a job in my legal area of interest I will regret this decision and try to earn either an LLM or Masters upon graduation. Hoping this would make me more marketable or allow me to make leaway into a non-legal job.

How much will it cost you in COA to finish? Just how far below median (in terms of estimated class rank %) are you?

I voted drop out because it doesn't seem like you want to be a lawyer, or if you do I can't really tell what you want to do.

Id around 30K for the next two years.

The fields that involve my area of interest are mostly Federal. This includes the agencies that deal with Trade and Securities to name two.

I do not know how far. I think the median lies around 3.25.

From what I can gather, you wanna do interesting financial stuff, law or otherwise. If you can get your grades up this semester, at least stick around until OCI. If you can't drop this summer.

You're there on a full ride and your scholarship is not at risk. Furthermore, you have only have done one semester. A lot of people do poorly their first semester and do well later on. Also, it sound likes most of your interests are government jobs, which don't rely as much on 1L grades as biglaw OCI recruitment does. I say stay in it. Good luck!

I recieved an internship offer at a Federal Agency that deals with trade, but again, none of this translates to future employment. Furthermore, my LS geographically far from DC and many say this can be a problem especially if most jobs that interest me are in fact in DC.

In most cases, people advise others to drop out if they do not like the law. In my case, I have interest in a narrow(ish) field of law and am really turned off by other fields of law.

DC is very competitive. What kind of work do you imagine yourself doing? What are you willing to do to get to your ideal job?

"Just do fed gov." isn't really a possibility. If that's all you're interested in I'm not sure that going to law school was a good idea.

I know this has probably been said a million times, but if you really want to be a lawyer don't drop especially in your posistion. If you kinda want to be one AND are pretty set on only prestigious jobs drop immediately. You're in a position where you have no idea where you are going to end up. It could be somewhere glamorous. You could be unemployed at graduation. If your grades stay the same you will probably end up with a legal job at graduation. Are you going to be making it rain? Probably not. However, you should get something and you probably will have a good career once you get experience. I say stay if you really want to be a lawyer.
