If your credentials already point towards trade, why not diversify? All of these are fine/comparable enough, so choose what you like. Do SEC RO (I assume Chicago based on post) since you expressed favoritism towards securities and enjoy the summer.

Well the SEC RO is not in Chicago and is in fact far from DC ( the market I wish to work in). I am not extremely interested in working for a private firm and would rather a federal job that involves, securities or trade.

Do you have an idea which of these internships would benefit my resume in future job applications?

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I really appreciate it.

My god have mercy on your soul trying to get DC from Indiana/WashU/Notre Dame/Illinois/Iowa. I hope your grades are killer.

I don't think it's quite as simple as being able / willing to move.

TLSUSER22 wrote:For sure for sure. Of course I agree with you most of you, but not to the extreme that most in these discussion forums suggest.

People sometimes look at placement statistics and will assume that it is difficult for a student at a given university to go to, lets say, Boston because the university places 80% in for example, Texas.

I think, just because a university seems to place a large part of its student body in a certain area does not mean things are as rigid as people suggest.

In this example, its not like everyone is trying to go Boston, most are happy with Texas, thats why the placement numbers differ so greatly. Especially with jobs in the Federal Government.

How can the government be representative if every attorney is from the Northeast Area. I hope this explains my opinion a bit better.
Your opinion is wrong because DC is debatably the most competitive market in the country.

Nope. Let me tell you something though. DC is everybody's (JD wise)type....
The last part: T-14 is quite diverse within itself. In addition, highly qualified and experienced people attend those schools from everywhere.

Well thanks (to all of you have responded) for shedding light on this issue. I guess internship wise I will aim for the DC options.

I did not intend for this discussion to go off on a tangent but was hoping you guys could help me weigh options. Either way thanks a lot.

Pick whichever of these interests you most, OP, but know going in that a 1L internship isn't going to make you competitive for a fedgov job by itself.
