Top Law Schools

So a well connected relative of mine has put in a good word for me to someone at a V100, who encouraged me to send only a resume. I am at a T60, with shit grades. I dont know how to feel about this, I kind of dont even want to bother if they'll ask for my transcript, and embarass myself/my relative. Should I find a way to bow out of this gracefully or is there some sort of chance that they will only want my resume?

no, my gpa isn't even on my resume. I mostly apply to places that don't require or usually request it. Got a gov gig 1L summer.

crazy to do anything? You mean to not try at all? Or to even attempt? In an ideal world, yeah, it would be awesome. I just don't see it happening. If it does happen, I will be kind of shocked that I could be so lucky. I can see a below median at HYS getting thrown a bone....

No I mean crazy to do anything to sabotage your chances, dude. You've got an in with your cousin, you should use it. Even if they ask for your transcript, you might get an interview and that's your chance to kill it.

Wow, thanks for the encouragement(srs). Any idea how to get over the weirdness if it comes up? My grades are kind of improving, I hope to maybe graduate just short of median.

^^Thats what I was thinking. This isn't for a job, but for the summer. As I said, I didn't ask for this situation, I'm debating what to do.

1) The partner would have to go out on a limb for you to have a significant impact.

2) Even then, they'd have to convince people you aren't stupid.

3) Big law work isn't easy. There is a reason they aren't paying mongoloids 20 dollars an hour for the work.

don't bow out, just make a compelling a pitch

I'm not sure why you keep bringing up "bowing out." Even if you have a 1% chance at the job (and that's not an evaluation) it's more than the 0% chance you'll have if you withdraw your application. What is the worst case scenario? That a firm finds out about your shitty grades and doesn't hire you? It's not like lawyers are going to be standing around at a water cooler talking about some law student with bad grades who had the AUDACITY to apply to their firm.

ETA: Also, if you think you're going to be close to median around graduation, your grades probably aren't that horrifically bad. While you might be well below the grade band the firm usually hires from, you can bet that other people with your grades at least applied. People don't just roll over and die if they're bottom third.

Exactly. Nor are they gonna fire your friend who forwarded your resume.

op, everyone will forget about you less than five minutes after reading your application, and that's if you're hired. less than thirty seconds if you're not. don't bow out out of embarrassment, that's ridiculous.

What about when the applicant is a 4th year lateral? Is it possible then that a transcript wont be asked for? I did awful in law school and would be thrilled to be able to land a V100 position.

OP, you should do everything to get the job while harboring realistic expectations. as a poster said above, if it gives you 1% chance thats better than none.

as DF's thread says, if you don't have a job, stop reading tea leaves and start mass-mailing

isn't it also prudent to only apply to certain types of jobs that will advance your career? ie. dont do workers comp or plaintiff's PI, etc. I hear that you get pigeonholed easily.

i'd say worry about that once you have an offer. until then, apply everywhere.
