I'm interviewing for an associate position at a big 4 firm in Atlanta. It's not exactly entry level... it requires 1 year of experience in a particular area, which I worked in for the past year and a half during law school/summer. I'm a 3L at a T50 with fairly good grades, but a JD is not required for the job (only preferred). I know the salary isn't going to be even close to biglaw, but I'm not sure exactly what to expect. 70k? 90k?

Also, what are the hours at an accounting firm compared to a big law firm? This is not strictly tax work, so I don't believe it will follow a usual busy from January to April sort of trend often seen in big 4 firms.

It sounds like this is more Tax Consultant gig since you say JD not required. I am also looking into these (2L) and have recently met a few ppl in this work. Good news is that you likely will get paid more than your non-JD coworkers. Bad news, you potentially will have a boss younger than you. News that depends on your outlook, you arent really practicing law.

As far as salary goes, Ive struggled to get an exact figure. Other posts say 60ish, but an associate with a JD I just spoke with made it sound like that was for an UG, a JD gets an auto +15ish.

I was just offered a similar position at a non Big 4 in CA. Salary offer was ~68k. You might get a little more since it is Big 4, but it probably won't be a huge difference.

I'm a JD/LLM whos starting in the B4 this summer albeit in the northeast, so I have some idea of the market.

Do you know what practice group you're interviewing for? I'd say standard Fed Tax group would give you something like 5-7k more than market for BS/MS in Accounting so probably mid 60ish in Atlanta. If you're in a specialty group, you be higher - maybe 70-75k for SALT, 80+ for International or M&A

deloitte in Atlanta offered my friend $65k for that position a few years back. He turned it down for the $120k big law offer he got a few weeks later.
