1L Job Hunt Help...

I am at a T30 law school having some difficulty in the summer job market. Applied to many big law firms on the theory that my grades would be better and the hopes that I would get paid because I have no other means to support myself over the summer. Grades came out and were just above the median, 3.4 or so (as a note they were dragged down by my lowest grade in legal practice). Wondering what my best options are at this point, considering I am likely to be rejected by most firms (Legal Scholars was my first choice, ha!). Important notes:

Interest in patent law (triple major with BS in Bio)
Pretty good on involvement (research, probably going to make moot)
Interests in VA, DC, Boston, Northern California

Please no flames, I understand my error in only going for biglaw, just looking for the best advice to cultivate my interest in patent and a strong desire to get paid, at least a little bit.

Apply to the IP boutiques in those areas. With your background you will probably get an interview or two. Also, look at firms in non-major markets (i.e. not NY, Chicago, DC, Boston, LA, SF).

Disagree with the person above. Unless you have some significant work experience, a BS in Bio is weak. You should apply to boutiques, but also apply to unpaid jobs. Go for judicial internships too, preferably federal district in a district where they hear patent cases. Although you are likely late for many chambers at this point.

if you have to get paid to get by, consider RA positions
