I'm a 1L at an MVPB school and I'm wondering how important summer location is. I want to pursue big law and estimate my class rank after first semester to be top 15-20%. I'm interested in NY big law, but I'm also interested in big law in the market my school is in (i.e. Chicago (M), DC (V), Philly (P), SF/LA (B)). I'm having a bit of trouble finding a job I like in the market, but I have some options outside of it. Should I pursue the jobs I'm interested in or just take any job in the market my school is in? Also, will this even matter if I pursue NY? That is, with good enough grades, could I just take a random job in Alaska and still be fine for NYC?
