Just had my first one and felt like it could've gone better. Ended with a request for grades when they become available. Haven't been able to track down much info on standard practice, so anyone know if this is a good/bad/I'm-reading-way-too-much-into-this sign?


Edit for posterity: ended up getting the internship, so here's a positive anecdote for you if you're facing something similar.

Neither my judicial internship or externship offer came at the end of the interview. I don't think they'd ask for grades if you were an automatic no.

I just had an offer at the end of mine, if the judge really wants you he probably would have offered. Sorry :/ But I wouldn't give up hope yet, just have realistic expectations, not sure why a judge would care about grades anyways...

There is no standard practice, it's really just up to the judge.

Like NotMyRealName said, it totally depends on the judge. Plenty interview a pool of applicants and then decide. And why would a judge be any less interested in grades than any other employer?

Usually no. They need time to really evaluate the candidates. Especially since those writing samples actually mean something for a change.

It depends on the judge. I had 10+ judicial internship interviews. Some took a few days, some gave offers on the spot, and some were silent until I called them to withdraw after accepting my offer for the summer (three weeks to a month later). I also had an exploding offer (that was fun). For the record, none of these judges cared about grades, but they also didn't ask for them at the end of the interview. I think asking for them means they do care about grades and this judge will take longer to consider candidates.

How did you experience multiple judges giving offers on the spot? Aren't you obliged to accept from the very first who did?
