Asking for Recommendations When Casting a Wide Net

Hi.
A little bit of a silly question concerning references.
A number of places I'm applying to work this summer require references. I have a few people in mind. The only problem is I've never asked my recommenders to be prepared to recommend me for so many different positions (nonprofit, government, firm, etc).
So how does one go about this? Most of these places aren't asking for letters...just for names, emails, and phone numbers. I feel like it may be asking too much of people.
Besides "get over it," any advice?? Is there anyway to make this easier on people?
