Hey,
I'm trying to figure out what is the standard (if there is any) for giving summer associates a stipend or an advance on pay before the summer starts to allow you to secure a place to live? No one seems to know, but it seems pretty crazy that there wouldn't be a system in place.

Are you in looking in New York? You can try summer housing at one of the law school dorms. Just taking a random shot in the dark re your question.

In your shoes I would ask my recruiting contact (the recruitment coordinator or equivalent).

It's common for major firms in NYC. Ask your firm.

Aware of advances but not stipends. Got info from recruiting about it early in the year (jam/feb).

FWIW, my LA firm gave me a $2000 advance. Like others in this thread, they told me about it in spring.
