How much does UG matter for client contact?

I heard that at firms with strong connections with the investment banks (S&C/WLRK/Cravath etc.), partners tend to bring associates who went to UG at the few schools with strong ties to high finance (HYP, Dartmouth, Wharton, Columbia) to client meetings over associates who went to other schools (all else equal). Partners want associates taking on the weight of chatting with clients, and most clients at the investment banks went to one of those UGs. How prevalent is such practice at non-V5 firms that has more of a company-side client base?

This is not true at all. Sounds like something out of a tv show.

I think some UGs get a boost at OCI but not for those reasons. HTH.

I work at one of the firms mentioned in the OP. I don't think my partner knows where any of the associates on his team went to UG, and if he did, I'm fairly certain he wouldn't care.
