Dinner Invitation

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Nov 20, 2013 4:09 pm

Few of the associates from my upcoming 2L summer firm will be in town for business. They are in a different department but invited me to dinner to meet and to tell me more about the firm.

Is it bad form to decline the invitation? I've got finals couple weeks away and have a lot of studying to do. Should I just suck it up and take couples hours out of my studying to meet them for dinner?

Seriously, you want to turn it down because finals are soon? Seriously?

I will try to say this in the nicest way possible.

Declining an invitation to dinner because you have finals coming up is one of the dumbest reasons to do so. You think these people are just shitting their day away doing nothing? They're taking time out of their schedule to meet and talk with you as well. And trust me, their time is much more valuable than yours. Suck it up and go to the dinner.

I don't care if your limbs aren't fully attached, you're going to that dinner. Your grades are meaningless at this point, your impression on your SA firm that leads to an offer is all that matters. I'm almost tempted to call this out as a flame because it lacks basic common sense.

OP here.

It's not a flame. After typing this out and posting it, I realized how "stupid" I sounded. I guess I've just been a bit too stressed/overwhelmed with everything this semester. It definitely should help taking a few hours and getting away from the books.

Thanks for the "tough love"! :)
