Real Estate Practice to In-House

If you worked at a large firm in their Real Estate practice, what type of opportunities down the line would be available to go in-house?

You could probably work for a REIT or any kind of real estate development firm. There are probably real estate specific jobs in consulting. There are probably insurance positions also (title insurance?). Also, lots of large institutions with in-house legal departments (such as universities) probably have one attorney on staff that specializes in real estate.
The possibilities are not endless but they are not really limited either.

Several attorneys have gone on to work at telecommunications or energy corporations that are always in need of land.

Depends on the company and needs.
I work in-house at a company that is a cross between sports talent agency and corporate marketing company.
Our GC was a former big law real estate attorney. Rarely do we ever encounter real estate issues. Was not an issue for him when he first came over and adjusted.
It's not hard to learn a lot of the applicable law on the job. The real skill we look for is ability to negotiate deals and communicate with all business units.
