The Jos. A. Bank stuff doesn't hold up great, but if you get it tailored properly it will look good enough for a while for most situations. You can at least count on getting conservative, safe, wool suits there, which makes it a better place for someone who doesn't really know what they're looking for than most department stores, where you might walk out with some shiny polyester thing thinking it must be good because Calvin Klein shat it out.
The real problem with JAB they're mostly cut for old fat dudes. But honestly, people hold up Brooks Brothers as the gold standard but most of their suits (not the Fitzgerald stuff) are equally boxy and unflattering, albeit better-made.
