Shearman's prestige

Why did Shearman experience such a drop on Vault from #8 to #27?

Are other V10's susceptible to what happened to Shearman? Are there any firms (WLRK/S&C/Cravath or V5) immune to this?

Before answering your questions, one must ask oneself "what happened to Shearman." Its "Vault rank" declined, but what does that mean?

Do you know what the Vault survey is? Do you know its methodology? Do you know what impact it has in the industry - who pays attention to it, what firms do in pursuit of rankings, etc.? Do you know what things could happen that would cause a firm to move up or down on the list?

Join me, and we shall contemplate those questions on the Tree of Woe.

You laugh, but for people who seek out WLRK then make the choice to work there, it seems they kind of love it. There can be a disconnect between the hours you work and the environment in which you work those hours.

Plenty of people with solid 9 to 5s despise their job and went to quit, neh?

Oh for sure - looking at them now, WLRK actually do quite well on associate satisfaction surveys - then compare with CSM. You could say it comes down to personality, or maybe you could also say it comes down to dat BONUS.

Is Shearman on the rise again?
