Where do you want to live... those are three very different places.

I prefer LA--but Mofo SF has a such a strong litigation rep in Cal that I can't help but be drawn to it.

Those that picked Mofo care to elaborate?

To the above poster, MOFO SF is the best you can get in Lit. You are literally at the top of the food chain, working on the biggest, highest profile cases (and usually winning them). Also, you're a stylin' MOFO SF bro that has martini lunches and lives the models and bottles lifestyle everyday.

Right--that's what draws me there--but my understanding is most of the work moving through that office right now is IP Lit. Based on prior work experience, I am fairly certain I want to do white collar and I have a fairly limited interest in IP. That being said, would you still pick Mofo over OMM (Vault 20 white collar) and Skadden (Vault 2 white collar)?

Again, OP, where do you ultimately want to end up and live? I can't speak to the exact work of MoFo in SF, but it certainly seems like most is centered around IP. You cannot go wrong with OMM or Skadden with those Vault rankings. I think your biggest question is where do you want to end up ultimately?

I was facing a very similar decision recently.

If you want to do white collar litigation, and you want to live in LA, go to OMM. The difference in prestige between Mofo and OMM is not significant, at all.

OMM takes too much heat on TLS from people have don't really seem to know what they are talking about. The firm is one of the strongest firms in California (let alone Los Angeles) and is giving you an opportunity to both do the kind of work you want to do and live in the city you want to live. This is an easy decision.

Based on type of work -white collar - I would rank them this way.

1. MoFo SF
2. OMM LA
3. Skadden PA

There are no models or bottles in SF.

In my mind this is a question between Mofo SF and OMM LA (I'm wary of satellite offices).

Because Mofo and OMM are relatively equal, I'd pick where you would rather live.

There are arguably more models and bottles to be had in LA. Less hipsters too.

Arguably? I am from SF and I will tell you that if you are looking for beautiful women and a happening nightlife, it isn't the city for you.

Hence the nicknames "city of 7s" and "San Francisco 49er's" (girls that are 4s in LA/NY but are 9s in SF)
