DC Call backs/Offers

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Sep 06, 2013 3:35 pm

How are people doing? It is a very tough market in DC. I'm striking out. Thoughts? Data? Thanks.

got rejected after my first two callbacks, but landed an offer from my third (which was the most selective of the three purportedly), so don't get down on yourself!

MVP, LR grade-on. Good, but not great, interview skills. One year of WE with some WE during college.

I went 10/16 for screeners to CBs.

For CBs to offers, I'm 2/4. One ding; one radio silence for 2 weeks (presumed ding). Cancelled the remaining CBs.

I know people with similar stats who had much less success in DC. Not sure how people lower in the class are doing.

I have several friends who have struck out completely. They are mass mailing. Bunch of DC firms decided not to have summer programs.. or have made them much smaller.

Top 15%-ish at MVP, high-level work experience (several years), military. Did not apply to LR because I don't have time between other endeavors. So far, have struck out in DC. 0 for 8, with 1 still pending.

Got an email today from the hiring partner that the committee was "actively considering [me] for a position." CB was middle of last week. No idea what to make of that.

CB last week as well. I was told they generally don't make decisions until they finish interviewing. Have they held true to this in past years?

I blame the sequester.

THANKS OBAMA.

This is contrary to my experience at MVP where top 10% folks with WE have done pretty well in DC, though it's definitely tougher than NYC. My impression has been very feast or famine: top people get multiple offers, median folks have trouble getting even a CB.

You got 8 callbacks in DC but zero offers?? Maybe there is something more going on. 8 CBs is a lot for DC

Transfer to MVP. Top 5% at old T2. Only got 2 DC CBs out of 8 DC screeners from OCI, but have offers from both firms. Waiting to hear from top firm in my home market before deciding. Absolutely thrilled with these results.

Were these following screeners or callbacks?

Anyone with an offer from McDermott? CB three weeks ago, and have heard nothing.

I had 6 interviews in D.C ( coming from far out of town). Two of those were immediately call-back style. I had one additional call-back and one more call-back still pending. I got an offer from v20 firm and rejected from the other two that I called back with.

The DC market has been much tougher than I expected. I'm top 5 people in my class at T1 school, have had callbacks with Venable, Covington, McDermott so far no word from any of them (and since these CBs were 2.5-4 weeks ago I assume I'm either dinged or in some backup pile).

Five CB in DC from lower T14, top of class, LR, previous work experience.

1 offer (Wilmer), 1 ding (Cleary), 1 silence (Sidley) (presumed ding), and 2 remaining CB to actually do

My experience during OCI was that everyone with decent grades that actively wanted DC got at least a few CBs. Didn't realize it was such a tough market.

3.4 ish at T6 with work experience in DC. Found the DC market to be pretty tough. Bid most of the top firms, only got one callback for firm outside the V50. Probably missed the grade cutoff at most places.

How long did Wilmer take?

Wilmer dinged me in about 5 business days or so. I had a Sidley CB recently so I'm hoping I hear back soon at least.

My sense is that DC firms take longer than NYC firms from CB to response. Everything is slower in DC.

I would not give up on the possibility of an offer for at least two weeks, I think. Others may disagree.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
