Also, I know I for a fact that I CBs at the same firms as some friends and we were not always at the same hotel. Really, on a list of the most unimportant things you could be worried about this is pretty close to the top of the list.

I support this. Might as well try and get the nicest hotel possible.

Anyone know about Shearman and Sidley?

Semi-unrelated, probably stupid question. But would you guys count paying 10 bucks for internet at the hotel room as a "reasonable expense" to put on the reimbursement form, or is it mostly for meals and transportation?

Not really as stupid as OP's.

There's no harm in asking for reimbursement for this expense. Is recruiting coordinator going to run to a partner and by like, "ZOMG Anonymous User paid for WiFi in his hotel room. Don't give him an offer!" No. Partner will probably throw her out of the office for bringing that to her attention.

On the instructions I received from one firm, it specifically says that it considers Internet access to be a reasonable expense. Unfortunately, it then says that the mini bar is not. Darn.

OP's question isn't stupid at all, especially if OP already has an offer that he or she wants and is thinking about canceling the rest of the callbacks. If you have the luxury of staying at the Ritz/Waldorf for a week while having at least some interest in the firms that you are doing callbacks for, why not? If that's not the case, then which hotel probably should be the least of OP's worries.

OP's questions is stupid, and you are an idiot for making this argument.

Depends on how much you want a job. If not that much, even Waldorf is reasonable for a callback (since Gibson Dunn puts people there). If you want to play it safe, Hilton Midtown or a 3/4* hotel near the firm is probably more appropriate.

If this was OP's question he should have just asked it like this because it makes way more sense to be concerned about this. Honestly for most firms the hiring committee is going to be totally insulated from whoever is doing the reimbursements so it probably won't have any impact on a decision. All the hotels instated at probably ran between $250-$350/night when booked through the firms, some maybe a bit more so that is a decent target to have.

Isn't it possible that OP is just trying to choose a host firm for a week of callbacks and wants to get the best hotel?

Yes, because the only thing douchier the debating whether Cravath is more prestigious than Wachtell is whether the Waldorf is better than the Ritz.

All big firms in NYC will put you in a nice place.

V5s all the way up to WLRK will absolutely put you in mediocre hotels.

Sidley will usually put you up at the Michelangelo. It's right across the street from their office. It's not my style - kind of granny-chic - but it is an awesome hotel. Really comfortable LARGE rooms and great service. They also have a free breakfast (scones/pastries and good coffee) which is nice when you're running out the door for interviews. The location's good too; it's up on 50th, so you're not in the middle of Times Square. As far as NYC hotels go, it's one of my favorites despite the fact that it's not particularly modern.
