I need some input on whether/how to include a new position I have on my legal resume. Recently, I was accepted as a staff writer for a sports blog. It has a large readership, but the average interviewer will not have heard of it, and its an unpaid position (I'm doing it to improve my writing and as a hobby). I'll be contributing roughly 2-5 articles on a weekly basis.

Does this belong on a legal resume? If so, how...under "professional experience" or under "hobbies/interests"? Thoughts?

I'd put it under employment. Most lawyers would like this (or pretend to like it to be more manly)

I second this. It'll be a great thing to talk about in interviews. I wrote for an automotive website for a while and I landed my pre-LS law firm gig after an interview with a partner who was a total car nut.

It depends. If you are a 1L I would put it under experience with all of your other jobs. If you are a 2L/3L I would put it either under "Other Experience" if you have a mix of legal and non-legal jobs that could support two headings. If you don't, I would put it under interests. My concern is that this shows up at the top of your list (since chron-order is typical) and overshadows your legal experience.

It belongs on a resume in employment. Any experience is good experience, IMO. Plus, writing is really important in legal jobs, and this shows not only that you can do it professionally, but also that you are trying to improve. I think it can only help.

I could see it as either. If you already have a ton of legal experience you want to stress, maybe interests. But it's like a job, if you're a regular contributor, so that's like employment. I'm leaning towards employment because it's cool and it's writing.

OP here...thanks for all the input, I appreciate it. I should have mentioned I'm a 2L, and have several years of WE, so I am leaning towards putting it in my professional experience section (vs legal experience section).
