Reimbursement - do I really ask for EVERYTHING?

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Aug 10, 2013 11:21 am

Flight, transportation, etc. okay, I get it. But do people really send in receipts for meals? It seems a bit petty on my part...!

As long as the meals are not outrageously priced for the location (think around $40ish for NYC), then yes; you should absolutely keep your meal receipts and get all those expenses paid for as well as the actual travel expenses. I don't understand your dilemma considering firms openly offer such reimbursement.

Don't ask to be reimbursed for a cup of coffee, for example, but do ask for meals.

It seems petty until you consider that someone doing 10 callbacks in NYC is out $400 just for one nights dinner per callback.

Yes, and they aren't going to look at you more favorably for not submitting receipts.

I ate an $80 steak dinner by myself on a callback where I knew I didn't want to work at the firm. Billed it to the firm. Got an offer.

Seriously don't worry about this stuff.

Just as a sidenote, odds are good that no one at the firm who has any say in hiring is ever going to see your reimbursement requests.

Yes, submit everything, even coffee. The people handling your receipts are not going to suggest you get no-offered if you eat too much.
