Patent Law Job Market for Chem. Eng.

Post by mvanmaele » Sat Jul 27, 2013 4:50 pm

Hello! I would love to get your opinions on the following question: what sort of demand may (or may not) exist in the patent law job market for my technical background?

I graduated with honors from a top 15 school with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and an M.S.E. in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. My M.S.E. consisted of coursework only (no thesis), but I am the lead author on a research article published this year. I now work at a biodefense contractor and I plan to spend 1-2 years there before matriculating law school. Based on my numbers I'm applying at several of the top 15 schools that jive with me.

As I understand it, EE/CS is more popular than bio in terms of hiring prospects. However, I would love to know how Chem. Eng. fits into the picture. Any advice you can give me on top of that would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

look through the Loyola Patent Interview threads to get an idea. you can see what types of majors received preselects/callbacks.

HIGH! I am jealous. Almost every IP employer is looking for this background. It's basically a requirement now for IP.
