Top Law Schools

I am working on my 3L OCI bidlist. Anyone have any idea how competitive the following government positions are.
I would not want to bid them if there is 0 chance of getting a job.

SEC (DC)
SEC (secondary offices)
Federal Reserve Board
IRS
Comptroller
FCC

The Fed and the IRS usually pick up a few honors attorneys, though the IRS hires mostly from their 2L class and is more competitive than most. I know the FCC is at least running an honors attorney program at this point for rising 3Ls, and has hired a handful in the past. I've never heard of the SEC hiring someone straight out of school--they typically hiring for summers, and for experienced attorneys. Maybe they are switching things up, maybe not.

None of these are going to give you a good chance, obviously. Even DOJH is only hiring what, 13 permanent positions this year (not counting the EOIR clerkships and other potentially term-limited spots), and that's for the whole country. I wouldn't bid any of these unless you have the background for it, and they require pretty different backgrounds.

There's a thread about the numbers on here, but if you google "doj honors program" it will take you to the application info page, which lists the components that are hiring and how many. (I think it's a little bit more than 13 but not much.)

If you don't include the typical "clerkship" (term limited) places like EOIR or the DEA, or newcomers to not giving out a permanent offers like the civil division AND criminal division ("positions may be term-limited"), you have 14 (my bad, not 13) positions that are definitely permanent.
