Be sure to consider the fact that the GPA medians listed on the OCS site probably should not be relied upon. They're calculated from students who accepted SA offers at each firm over the past 14 years! Obviously, firms are likely to be hiring at higher GPAs now than they were before the recession. Also, GULC bumped up its grade curve a few years ago. So, lower GPAs used to be equivalent to higher current GPAs.

musicfor makes a great point. If a firm was looking for 3.2 ten years ago, they are probably looking for 3.4 or even higher now. See if you can substitute in some firms with lower medians per the OCS data.
Couple of other quick thoughts:
- I believe OCS told you correctly that the median at the end of 1L is ~3.30.
- Stop saying you're screwed. I know you're saying it partly in jest, but it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy if that's your attitude. Bid smart and get as many screeners as you can. If you can get in a room with enough interviewers, you very well might hit it off with one and a job ensues. Plus EIW isn't everything. You have to hustle but you're not screwed.

1. You are exactly median basically so don't be so negative but you are below alot of firms 3.3 median cut off.
2. The gpa data absoutely sucks call career services and be very specific that you only want 09-12 data and don't take their bullshit that the data is all the same ask them to give you a rough median for the last 3 years.

Did this and was told (twice) that they release only the 14-year-long data in order to protect privacy and confidentiality and therefore they can't give me a pre- and post-recession GPA breakdown. Then I was told that post-recession hiring standards have indeed gone up - but nothing specific. Well.
So I guess I'll just treat the medians like minimums and adjust my list accordingly. But thanks for the advice guys.
Another try - thoughts?

OP here.
Now that I know OCS is not releasing any post-recession data, I just treated medians GPAs as minimums and changed the bidlist a bit.
Basic info about myself - GULC 3.28 (curve is ~3.3,) K-JD, 1 foreign language (fluent in Mandarin), probably no journal.

Wait, wot? If you treated the median GPAs as minimums, then why are 5 of your first 10 bids on firms where your 3.28 doesn't meet the minimum?

bad use of reaches. You need to reach for places with bigger classes

OP here. Thanks a lot guys.
Robespierre:
OCS said I should use my higher bids on a few reaches, which seems to be somewhat credible advice. Should I disregard this advice and move the more GPA-wise plausible firms up the order, or reach for different firms?
JamMasterJ:
By places with bigger classes, I assume you mean Skadden, DPW, Shearman and the like? Most firms with big class sizes coming to our OCI seem to be rather selective firms that rarely dip below median at my school even in pre-recession years. Given the selectivity and the sheer number of bids they tend to get, would it make sense to reach for these places using higher bids with a 3.28 GPA?

I guess a few reaches are in order, but not half of your top 10. Out of A&O, Sidley, Jones Day, Cahill, Cadwalader, I'd move a couple down and move up firms with lower medians. And if there are firms you're not bidding on that have medians below 3.25, I'd add 'em to the list and drop long shots like Milbank, Fried Frank. Good luck.
