Here's my ranking:
Corporate law
IP
Tax
Real estate
Insurance coverage
Commercial litigation
Employment law (defense)
Professional liability
Immigration
Med mal
Family
Personal injury / general torts
Workers' compensation
Feel free to add areas of law

Sorry. Criminal law would be around where workers comp is. Also, it's not stupid, most lawyer all about prestige and how things sound. So that's what this post is for.

This is pitifully stupid since there is no objective notion of what areas within law are more vs. less prestigious

A lot of lawyers (mostly law students) are all about prestige and how things sound. You don't have to follow the bunch.
When I say criminal law I'm talking about being a prosecutor or defender. I'm not talking about $69 DUI/ticket lawyers. Really fucked up that you think that people that keep our communities safe and serve justice are at the bottom of the law hierarchy.

I know, a part of me was all taken up with how hot she is, and making "ground and pound" jokes with my friends. But the other part of me kept thinking how she could break my arm off in a matter of seconds and take it home as a trophy.

You're right. The other criminal law prosecutors and defendants re say murder cases. I'd say they're around family law. There's no real law there. A good actor could do their job.

I'm really glad this list is here so I know where I should be applying for jobs and what practices I should look at. I certainly wouldn't want to enter any practice areas lower than #3 on Anon's completely objective preftige list.

Prestige is important, so ranking practice areas by prestige makes sense? No. Where you work dictates prestige, not practice area. Doing criminal prosecution for the DOJ is more prestigious than doing real estate in mid-law. There's no difference in prestige between doing litigation at Kirkland and doing corporate at Latham. And caring about prestige in itself is vapid.

Where is doing workers comp law prestigious at all. Just as there is a prestige ranking between firms, there is a ranking between practice areas.

There are so many things missing from this list. Also, corporate is a huge umbrella term.

And what kind of organizations do workers comp? Does Wachtell do workers comp? Do district attorneys do workers comp? No. Big firms, big government, and big-name nonprofits do high-stakes work that is prestigious. Smaller-stakes stuff is not prestigious because it doesn't generate big revenues or big headlines. Your approach is ridiculous and superficial.

I don't know what you're all up in arms about. OP's post is spot on - these are the prestige rankings. Pick your practice area based on them.
