Can we get some other schools lists?

What have people been doing to get ready for OCI? Besides the mocks...

Two OCI questions for UIUC:

1. Does anyone lurking on this board know if journal selections are going to be out this week?

2. Are there firms coming to OCI which did not make any summer offers to UIUC students last year? In other words, are there firms coming to OCI only for show? By the same token, are there firms which made multiple offers or seemed particularly enthusiastic about UIUC students? So far, it has been really hard to get firm-specific advice from Career Services.

Miarecki used to work at Winston, and I think they made 6 summer offers to Illinois students after callbacks, resulting from OCI in 2011. Three ultimately accepted the offers. Of course, Winston then no-offered about a third of their summer class last year, including one of the Illinois students.

I think both would be correct statements.

For WashU peeps, are all invitations out yet, or just a handful? Got a whole lotta pendings, even from the secondary market I have strong ties to.

I think most invitations start coming out tomorrow. All of mine say 'pending' still but one, and it says 'selection.' Who do you have selections from so far?

Honestly, no one right now, but only bid on a few secondary markets, and mass mailed, somewhat successfully, on other secondary markets I have ties to. Meh medianish grades, decent resume (3-4 years decent WE, few other things on there) But a few of the firms at OCI I was hoping to use my strong ties to at least get a screener, but perhaps no luck. Got to kill the CBs I already have.

Congrats on the mass mailing success! I hope to start hearing back from mine soon, in the meantime I will send out more! I'm sure you'll get some OCI success. It looks like the school will start to announce tomorrow what invitations are out.

Ha, CSO must've seen my inquiry. Sent this 5 minutes ago:

"Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, July 23rd at 9:00 a.m. CDT, you will be able to log onto Symplicity to see if you have been selected for interviews as part of Fall 2013 Early Interview Week. Please sign up for your interview ASAP or inform the CSO of your decision to decline the interview by Monday, July 29th . Notifications are on a rolling basis, please check regularly. As employers continue to make their selections, we will keep a running list on the home page of those who have make their selections, If your interview status indicates "pending" for any employer who is listed on the homepage, you were not selected for an interview. So for WashU folk, looks like selections were made, and looks like I struck out. Is it really possible not to get a single interview with meh/okay grades(87-90ish), even with ironclad ties, and the top bids on a specific secondary market I know not many people have ties to? I thought there was at least a lotto.

I had a 91.5 with LR at OCI 2 years ago. I got about a dozen interviews, but I was competing against all the top 5% kids as well. This was for the random mid west markets as well, WUSTL doesn't limit bids in an effective way, everyone usually bids on everything. If you're an average white guy with no work experience or brand name undergrad, they probably will pass you over.

Mass-mail, but also start to network with firms in that area, no matter the size. Obviously focus on the ones with summer programs, but that's what you should be doing before school starts. Hopefully, there will be some wustl alums at some firms to make it easier to do so. There's probably some from your undergrad if it's in the area, so message those guys as well. Speaking from experience on what I did not do and should have.

I've got 100+ mass mail out there, and some CBs already from a good market that pays more than it should (East Coast, no WashU alum) but would rather work in the secondary midwest market that pays less, but have super hard ties to, and alum. Have a few friends that work in these firms, but they are all junior, and not going to be able to bat for me. Feel like going to need to kill these CBs and just hope for the best.

Did you mass mail vault firms too? Or just every firm you could find? Trying to find a list to mail and add to my existing list.

For Wash U, does anyone know how to tell if you were selected to interview by the firm or by lottery?

A) probably shouldn't matter. Do your best anyways.

B) I heard rumors that the lottery system was foregone this year. Plus lottery is a misnomer- basically CSO can "choose" people I believe. Not 100% sure though.

Good work on the mass mail hustle, I need to get on that. How many total firms did you bid? It seems odd to not get any screeners.

I didn't bother with high vault firms, but did mail lower vaults, and some bigger secondary offices, and any 'bigger' firm (100+) I could locate.
